Prominent Tone Analyzer
The Nelson Acoustics Prominent Tone
Analyzer (PTA) conducts Tone to Noise (TNR) and Prominence Ratio (PR)
analysis as defined by industry standards such as ANSI S1.13, ISO 7779
and ECMA-74. The TNR and PR metrics are utilized to judge the
prominence of tonal components in the noise emission spectra of the
product for both regulatory declaration and customer acceptance.
The PTA reads from text based FFT analysis
data files. The analyzer is programmed to import FFT files generated by the
Nelson Acoustics Trident application but can be used with an FFT data file
that is generated by any analyzer as long as the data is written or
assembled in the proper text file format.
The PTA conducts both TNR and PR on every FFT
line and generates a plot of TNR vs Frequency and PR vs Frequency,
facilitating quick analysis of FFT files. An interactive user interface
with cursor controls allows for detailed study of tones and the masking
noise that surrounds them. The program logic allows users to analyze both
single tone and multiple tones in the same critical band.
PTA analysis results are written to a Tone
Table which may then be exported into an MSExcel workbook. Nelson Acoustics
Trident users can export their prominent tone analysis results in the same
MSExcel spreadsheet used for their Trident Results.
