track to assist you with first setting the volume for listening and then
hearing the background noise level of the recording system.

Recordings of normal speech level voice tracks in hemi-anechoic chamber.
Computer boot up sequence
with disk rub_72 dB normalization
(3,969k wav file)
This is a recording of the boot up sequence of
an older PC system. The disk drive on this machine
periodically “rubs” during the boot up sequence. It is interesting
to see this rub in the STFT or Non-Stationary Loudness in the Nelson
Acoustical Engineering Sound Quality Demo. The level is about 40 dBA SPL at
the standard ISO 7779 operators position.
Microdrive disk access noise_72 dB
normalization
(2,753k
wav file)
This is a recording of a Compact
Flash microdrive at about ˝ meter, made in the anechoic chamber with an
ambient noise level of about 18 dBA. The overall recording level
analyzes at about 20 dBA at ˝ meter from the drive. Note the fidelity of
the drive clicks from this very small device, even when it barely
elevates the overall ambient noise level in the chamber.
