National Instruments
Sound and Vibration Toolset

With the Sound and Vibration Toolset from National Instruments and the LabView programming language, users are ready to start programming their own acoustical measurement solutions. Many of the National Instruments and Nelson Acoustical Engineering software applications provided by ViAcoustics are built around these Sound and Vibration Toolset VI's.

This powerful set of acoustical signal processing VI's make it easy to build an acoustical measurements to your specific needs.

About Host Based Filtering vs Real Time Filtering :

The National Instruments Sound and Vibration Toolset Vi's utilize host based filters. That is, the signal processing associated with the filtering is conducted on the host PC. Therefore, the time required to conduct the filtering operation relative to the input signal is based on the speed of the host PC and the other tasks currently being processed. For newer PC's with fast processors and very little other simultaneous task management, this filtering process can be close enough to real time to serve many needs.

For true Real Time Filtering, National Instruments offers the PCI-445x series of data acquisition cards with on-board DSP (Digital Signal Processing) and the NI-DSA w/Octave driver. Using a dedicated on-board processor for the proportional octave band filtering insures real time performance of your system.
